This is a fantastic way to grind down the US Army, as you can often inflict casualties in the tens of thousands, while taking mere hundreds yourself. Immediately reinforce, but make sure to not have Lee assigned as the general of the reinforcing army, or the stupid battle AI will swap him in in spite of his mere +2 defense. Put Stonewall Jackson (+5 defense!) in charge of a small army and send him into the West Virginia mountains to try and bait union forces into attacking.
